Sanford
Nestled
on the edge of Bauneg Beg Pond, Sanford Country Club is one
of Southern Maine's newest golf attractions. The course was
established in 1924 and was then called Bauneg Beg Country
Club. The original 9 hole course was designed by Alex T. Chisholm,
a well known Golf Pro from Portland Country Club.
The
Sanford Country Club was run by various organizations and
owners over the years until 1989 when a group of 15 local
business people purchased the Country Club with the intention
of expanding it to an 18 hole championship course.
The
grand opening for Sanford Country Club's 9 hole expansion
took place in June of 97. The new design was a real success.
Armstrong Golf Architects, LLC. blended the old Chisholm design
with that of their own and created a formidable championship
golf course with 4 sets of tees. The back tees are long and
challenging at 6700 yards while the forward tees are all designed
to accommodate all levels of golf.
Sanford
Country Club is a must play course located a few short miles
from the Wells/Ogunquet area. The Club has a newly expanded
practice range complete with a sand bunker, turf teeing area
and tee mats for the beginner. Golf lessons are also available
as well as cart and club rentals. The time is now to try out
Southern Maine's newest golf destination. Whether you are
a scratch player or a beginner, Sanford Country Club is the
place for you.
